Watercolor paints are water-based paints for painting on paper. The paints are in the form of dry cakes, which when wetted with water almost immediately turn into ready to use paint. ASTRA watercolors consist of high-quality finely crushed pigments, combined with water-soluble binder. In addition to pigments and binder, watercolors contain fillers which cause that the paint becomes matte when dried. Thus, applying paint more thickly you can paint using techniques similar to gouache, and in higher dilution using techniques characteristic of watercolor. Watercolors can be used in combination with tempera paints, poster paints and ASTRA wax crayons.
